ABSTRACT: A review of the arthritides involving the upper cervical complex with special emphasis on the radiological presentation, and a discussion on the importance of related spinal manipulative therapy is presented. A synopsis of the normal anatomy, biomechanics and spinographic measurements of the upper cervical complex is reviewed, to establish the basis for interpreting the radiological and pathological changes associated with selected arthritides.
