The Tongue and its relationship to the TMJ and the cervical spine

The tongue is the most important muscle in the oral cavity as it effects the function of the Temporal mandibular joint, dental arch, airway and the cervical spine. The function of the tongue is improved with myofunctional therapy as well as myofascial techniques. Focusing on the release of the tension in the tongue as well as all the structures that it attaches to, I will explain and demonstrate how I improve the function of the tongue by showing specific myofascial techniques for the tongue and suprahyoid muscles.

Hour 1:

Go over anatomy and physiology of the tongue and its relationship to the TMJ and cervical spine.

Hour 2:

Go through specific physical medicine techniques to increase the range of motion and function of the tongue and suprahyoid muscles.
